Voluntourism and Cruising  March 2016


Nancy Schretter, Together for Good's Founder, is featured in a session entitled "Shorex and the Rise of Voluntourism" at Seatrade Global 2016, the cruise industry’s premier conference. This session covers how cruise lines and others are catering to travelers' interests in combining volunteer opportunities with leisure travel and ways ports can adapt and cater to this voluntourism trend.

Variety the Children's Charity of Barbados supports numerous programs and activities for children throughout Barbados. The Variety Future Kids Programme helps special needs and disadvantaged children and the Aunty Olga Memorial School Aid Programme assists hundreds of children from disadvantaged families with school uniforms, books and school supplies. The charity could use jump ropes, basketballs, tennis balls, flash cards, colored pencils, crayons, erasers, glue sticks, small pencil sharpeners, pencils, pens, rulers, markers, chalk, calculators, puzzles, flash drives, arts & crafts supplies and age-appropriate story books. Island Routes offers Barbados visitors the opportunity to go on a Reading Road Trip and help local school children through their 'Community Routes Program.' Participants will interact with children at a local Barbados school, read a story to a small group of school children ages 3-10 years of age, and help school children improve their listening and comprehension skills.
